Knee Stem Cell Therapy in Los Angeles

If knee pain from arthritis, a meniscus problem or an old injury is limiting how you walk, work or train, knee stem cell therapy may be worth a look. Stem Cells LA offers non-surgical stem cell injections for the knee from our clinic at 1970 S Prospect Ave, Suite #2, in Redondo Beach, serving patients across Los Angeles and the South Bay.

Knee Conditions We Evaluate for Stem Cell Therapy

Most patients who ask about knee stem cell therapy have one of these problems:

  • Knee osteoarthritis: wear of the cartilage that cushions the joint, with stiffness, swelling and pain on stairs or after sitting.
  • Meniscus tears and degeneration: damage to the C-shaped cartilage pads inside the knee, often with catching or aching along the joint line.
  • Ligament sprains and partial tears: including the ACL and MCL, after sports, falls or twisting injuries.
  • Tendon pain: such as patellar tendinitis below the kneecap.
  • Chronic knee pain after injury or surgery that has not settled with rest and physical therapy.

Knees with severe, bone-on-bone arthritis or a large structural injury may need an orthopedic surgeon instead. We tell you plainly if we think that is your situation.

How Knee Stem Cell Therapy Works

Our knee stem cell therapy uses allograft stem cells from donated umbilical cords. The cord blood is processed into a solution that contains mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), other supporting cells, exosomes, cytokines and growth factors. MSCs can develop into tissue types found in the joint, such as cartilage and bone, and they release signaling molecules associated with lower inflammation and tissue repair.

The solution is injected into the knee joint or the injured tissue around it. The goal is to calm inflammation and support the knee’s own repair process, so you can move with less pain. Research on stem cells for knee cartilage is still developing, and results vary from person to person, which is why we explain what the evidence does and does not show before you decide.

Some knee patients also add exosome therapy, which delivers growth factors to the treatment area alongside the stem cells.

Knee Stem Cell Therapy vs Other Knee Treatments

Most people try several things before they look into stem cell therapy for the knee:

  • Rest, bracing and physical therapy help many knees and are usually the first step.
  • Anti-inflammatory medication can ease pain but is not always a good long-term option.
  • Cortisone injections often give short-term relief, and many patients find the effect wears off.
  • Arthroscopy or knee replacement can be the right answer for advanced damage, but they involve surgery, anesthesia and a longer recovery.

Knee stem cell therapy sits between these options. It is a series of injections rather than surgery, and many of our patients choose it because they want to avoid or delay a knee replacement. It is not a guaranteed alternative to surgery. Our article on alternatives to knee replacement covers the trade-offs in more detail.

What to Expect at Your Knee Appointment

1. Consultation

We go over your knee history, imaging, past treatments and what you want to get back to.

2. A knee plan

If stem cell therapy fits, we explain the plan, whether to add exosomes and how many sessions to expect.

3. Injection visit

The injection is done in our Redondo Beach clinic. There is no surgery and no general anesthesia.

4. Recovery and follow-up

Most patients have little to no downtime. We give you aftercare instructions and check on your progress.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Knee Stem Cell Therapy?

Good candidates usually have knee pain from mild to moderate arthritis, a meniscus or ligament injury, or tendon pain that has not improved enough with conservative care, and they want a non-surgical option. Your overall health, the stage of your knee damage and your goals all matter, so a consultation is the only way to know whether knee stem cell therapy makes sense for you.

Why Los Angeles Patients Choose Stem Cells LA for Knee Stem Cell Therapy

  • Honest answers: we tell you when we think stem cell therapy is unlikely to help, and when another specialist is the better next step.
  • A regenerative medicine clinic, not a research center: our patient blog cites third-party scientific sources so you can check the research yourself.
  • Ethically sourced allograft cells: donated umbilical cord stem cells, with no harvesting procedure from your own bone marrow or fat.
  • Easy to reach from across Los Angeles: our Redondo Beach clinic is open seven days a week, with weekend appointments for people who work during the week.

Many of our knee patients in Los Angeles are runners, cyclists, surfers and people who are on their feet all day. Our goal is to help you keep doing what you love with less knee pain, and to be clear about what knee stem cell therapy can and cannot do for your joint.

Preparing for Knee Stem Cell Therapy and Recovery Afterward

Bring any knee X-rays or MRI reports you have, a list of your medications and a short history of past treatments, such as physical therapy, cortisone or hyaluronic acid injections. If you take blood thinners or anti-inflammatory medication, tell us at booking, because we may give you specific instructions before the injection.

After knee stem cell therapy, most patients walk out of the clinic and return to normal daily activity within a day or two. We usually ask you to ease off high-impact exercise for a short period while the knee settles, and many patients continue a physical therapy program to rebuild strength around the joint. Any improvement tends to build gradually over the following weeks to months rather than overnight, and we check in along the way.

Knee Stem Cell Therapy FAQs

Researchers are still studying how much stem cells can rebuild cartilage. The aim of knee stem cell therapy is to reduce inflammation and support the joint’s own repair so you can move with less pain. We do not promise new cartilage, and results vary.

Some patients use it to avoid or delay surgery, especially with mild to moderate arthritis. Knees with severe damage may still need a replacement. We will tell you honestly which group you are likely in.

Most patients feel pressure and mild discomfort during the injection. Temporary soreness or swelling in the knee for a few days afterward is common.

It depends on your condition and goals. We explain the expected number of sessions at your consultation.

Results vary from person to person. They can last from several months to years, depending on the condition and factors such as activity level and weight.

No. Allograft stem cell therapy is not an FDA-approved procedure, and like all medical procedures it has no guarantees. We explain the evidence for your knee before you decide.
